Real People, Real Stories of Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Stacey
Stacey’s sleep apnea was misdiagnosed for over sixteen years. Doctors attributed her symptoms to everything from nerves to “teenager issues” to depression, putting her on unnecessary antidepressants and other medications with negative side effects. Of course, these did nothing to treat her sleep apnea, so the problem never improved. Finally, Stacey was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea after a sleep study was done and was able to begin treatment. Her health, quality of life, and mental wellbeing improved drastically, immediately after beginning her treatment. Like so many people, Stacey believed that sleep apnea was something that only older people, specifically men, dealt with. She began a YouTube channel to help spread sleep apnea awareness to other women, like her, who may be suffering for years with misdiagnosed or ignored symptoms.
